How would you explain your research in 3 sentences to someone who is not in science?

AMD (Age related macular degeneration) is a disease involving the degeneration of macula with age, the region of retina responsible for sharp vision. There are various factors influencing the disease and its pathophysiology. I am working on the genetic screening of genes responsible for AMD and their clinical correction.

More about You

I am a humble person who is extremely down to earth and has curiosity for science. I love reading and discussing about evolution. I love playing cricket and chess. I would like to travel and explore the world.

About your work

AMD is a common ailment of the eye affecting people of aged 50 and above. Previously we have analyzed the CCL-2, VEGFTLR3 and CFH genes polymorphism and their expression pattern in AMD pathogenesis in biomarker discovery program. We are further trying to dissect out the association of genetic polymorphism of some other important genes which play important role in different cellular processes; TIMP-3, LIPC, and SLC16aIER-3 and their expression in AMD and hope to substantiate these genes as prognostic and diagnostic marker of the AMD after CFH in north Indian context.
