How would you explain your research in 3 sentences to someone who is not in science?
The major cause of vision loss is retinal degeneration. Once retinal neurons are lost, they can not be replaced by neurons per se. Stem cells is only one of the optimistic approaches to achieve these lost neurons. So, we worked on isolation of stem cells from the Cilliary Epithelium, characterization and differentiation of stem cells to retinal neurons to circumvent the problem of degenerating retina.
More about you
I am a simple lady who would love to be a farmer if I were not in Science. I have a penchant to discuss issues with elders. I maintain a passion to visit North and South Pole of earth and am also inclined to take adventurous assignments. I love playing shuttle and enjoy listening to Telugu songs and reading science fictions.
About your work
We worked on stem cells located in Cilliary Epithelium of eye. We induced them with different growth factors and checked gene expression profiles. In future, we may use these cells in treating retinal degeneration.
