How would you explain your research in 3 sentences to someone who is not in science?
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is one of the form of degenerative diseases that leads to total disability of a person and ultimately leading to death within two to three years of its diagnosis. Till date no specific cause has been deduced in relation to disease since there is no known marker or molecule which can confirm the person suffering of ALS. We want to screen ALS specific biomarkers that can predict that the person is suffering from motor neuron degenerative disease to enable its diagnosis and prognosis.
More about you
I am a simple, straight forward person who firmly believes in live and let live philosophy and love to live truthfully. I enjoy going out with friends when I am not working in lab. I would have opted for a career in information technology if I had not picked up one in science.
About your work
ALS is one of the cause of serious disability in adults which results in death of a person. In Neuroscience Research lab I am trying to discuss polymorphism of promoters and 5 UTR of VEGF and sFlt-1 gene. I am interested to study levels of these protein factors in serum and their association with possible polymorphism and clinical symptoms. I hope to corroborate VEGF and sFlt- 1 as prognostic and diagnostic marker of the ALS one day.
